Alfred Hopper (1910-1990) – World War II veteran

Alfred George HOPPER (1910-1990) – During World War Two Alf was conscripted into the army, the Royal Artillery, and after the invasion of Europe in 1944 he served in France and Germany, and took part in the Liberation of Arnhem in April 1945.  During his wartime service he was taught to drive vehicles and to tow a gun and so, after the war, he broke away from the dead-end work as a gardener in a nursery and got work with the Folkestone and District Water Company, where he became a foreman.
