Notes - "My Grandmother died when I was 7 so I do not remember her. When my father died in 1929 my mother and I had nowhere to go as we could not go to Ireland where my mother was born. We had no future there because she had married a British soldier. My uncle Bert and his wife took us in for a few months and my grandmother was also living with them in Maison Dieu Road. My mother sometimes spoke of her mother in law and it is difficult to find words that exactly describe her. She was very proud, rather stately and a bit regal. She had very definite opinions and always gave great thought before she spoke. Although she was not a Dennis she was very proud of the name. I always think kindly of her because although it was only 2 years after my father's death that she died she remembered to give me my father?s share in her will. Unfortunately, I could not inherit it until I was 21 and in the meantime the firm of solicitors had badly invested the money so that the value had actually decreased by the time I got it.
