    Notes
    • Stephen and Florence had lived next door to each other for years, but he went to New Zealand to work and in 1907 Florence married Charles Lacy. She and Charles already had a son, Leonard, who was born in 1905. Florence was already pregnant with Mary when they married in 1907.

In early 1908 Charles Lacy - who was working as a miner - was drowned in New Zealand when the mine he was working in was accidentally flooded.

When Stephen Henry learned that Florence had been widowed, he came back to Australia to start courting her. They were married in October 1909. [1]

  • Notes  Died:
    • Julie Hopper, Jack's neice, says:

"This is how Jack met his death. Seems he was cleaning a gun when it accidentally fired, killing him. Nobody ever talked about this, so here again, what's mythology and what really happened may well be quite different. My aunt Gwen was adamant that it was an accident, and as there is nobody else alive now that I can ask about it, I have to take her word for it. But I do wonder why it was not ever talked about when I was young."
