Albert was born in 1883 in Dover, son of James and Emma Hopper (nee Ovenden) and enlisted in Sunderland.
In the 1901 Census – at the age of 18 – he was already and Able Seaman aboard the Sapphire, docked at Dover.
In the 1911 Census Albert was 26 years old and a steward on board the Viscount Castlereagh, moored near Becton Gas Works in Woolwich, London.
He was killed in action on 11th March 1917, when he was 34.
